Rock The Casbah!!!

So on our last weekend in Algiers we finally persuaded our Taxi driver Mohamed Huari to escort us into the Casbah district of Algiers. It is the oldest part of the city and has some unique old structures as well as some local artisans. It is also the place that inspired the movie “Cashab” from 1948. Pretty neat to see some of the old architecture but still an insane amount of garbage everywhere. I did see that they have a mule service that is led around the stairs in Casbah to try and pick up trash but judging by how much I saw I don’t think it works well. In the pictures of the bay if you squint hard you can see the towers near my hotel. That means that we are standing on the twinkling hill I posted in the sunset photos. For those wondering about the sheep, it is coming up on the Eid al-adha (Feast of Sacrifice) which apparently the sheep are the main dish. So everyone goes out to buy a sheep to have for dinner. Enjoy!

    1. Thanks, it was definitely an interesting time here. I was told to watch the battle of Algiers from 1966 to understand the culture better and why things are how they are.
